Is It Really Your Pet? A 3-Point Likeness Check Before You Pay for an AI Portrait

A pretty portrait is not the same as your pet. Here is a 60-second check to run on any free preview before you unlock it.

To check whether an AI pet portrait really looks like your pet, put your original photo next to the preview and compare three things: the eyes (shape and color), the markings (where patches, stripes or socks sit) and the face shape (muzzle length, ear set, head proportions). If any of the three is clearly off, do not pay yet — try another photo or style, or ask for a remake.

Most people judge an AI portrait in one second: is it pretty? That is the wrong question. The one that decides whether you will be happy a week later — especially if it is a gift — is whether it looks like your pet and not just a pet of the same breed.

PetMona gives you a free watermarked preview before you pay, and the preview page now shows your original photo right next to the result. Use that side-by-side. Here is what to look at.

1. The eyes

Eyes carry most of the recognition. Check the color, the shape (round, almond, slightly squinty) and the spacing. If your cat has one amber eye and one greener one, or your dog has a permanently worried brow, those details should survive. A generic big-eyed look is a warning sign.

2. The markings

Markings are the fingerprint: the white blaze, the patch over one ear, the stripe pattern on a tabby, the sock on one paw. Find two of them in your photo and look for the same two in the portrait, on the same side. Small artistic simplification is fine; a moved or missing signature mark is not.

3. The face shape

Compare muzzle length, ear set and the overall proportions of the head. Bulldog-type faces and long-nosed breeds are where generic results drift most. If the portrait looks like a different breed from the one on your couch, trust your eyes.

What to do when one of the three is off

  • Swap the reference photo for one that is sharper, evenly lit and shows the face straight on — dark coats and low light hide exactly the details that matter.
  • Try a different style. Painterly styles such as Watercolor or Renaissance Oil tolerate more variation in fur detail than photo-real looks; a quieter style can also keep the focus on the face.
  • You get up to three free previews per email and device, so use them to compare rather than to roll the dice on the same photo.
  • If you already paid and the likeness is clearly wrong, email us within 48 hours and we will remake it. A style you simply like less is not covered, but a pet who is not recognizably yours is.

Giving it as a gift? Check it for them

The person receiving the portrait will notice a wrong marking faster than you do. Run the three checks yourself first, and if you can, ask a family member who knows the pet well to glance at the preview. Do not hand over a portrait you would hesitate to hang in your own hallway.

What this check cannot tell you

It is a quick sanity test, not a guarantee. Results depend on the photo, the style and the animal, and we have not measured how often every coat color or species passes. If you try a few previews and none of them feels like your pet, that is useful information too — it is better to learn it before paying than after.

PetMona turns a clear pet photo into wall-ready art — ship an 8×10″ print or unlock HD to gift yourself. Free preview, no subscription.

Check an AI pet portrait for likeness in 60 seconds

  1. Open the original beside the preview. Use the side-by-side on the preview page, or hold your photo next to the screen.
  2. Compare the eyes. Check color, shape and spacing of the eyes.
  3. Find two markings. Pick two signature markings in the original and confirm both are present, on the same side, in the portrait.
  4. Compare the face shape. Check muzzle length, ear set and head proportions.
  5. Decide. If all three match, unlock. If one is clearly off, change the photo or style, or use another free preview first.

Frequently asked questions

How do I know if an AI pet portrait looks like my pet?

Place your original photo beside the preview and compare the eyes, the markings and the face shape. If the eyes, at least two signature markings and the head proportions all match, it is a good likeness.

What if my pet has a dark coat?

Dark coats hide detail, so start from a sharp, evenly lit photo taken in daylight, face toward the camera. Even then, compare the preview carefully — fine fur detail is the first thing to go.

What happens if the portrait does not look like my pet after I pay?

Email us within 48 hours and we will remake it. Ordinary taste differences about a style are not covered; a clearly wrong face or missing signature marking is.
